Introduction

Marigold flower belongs to compositae family and tagetes erecta. It is an annual herb and widely planted in Heilungkiang, Jilin, Inner Mongolia, Shanxi, Yunnan , etc.The marigold we used comes from Yunnan province. Based on the local situation of special soil environment and lighting condition , the local marigold have characteristics like growing fast,long flowering period ,high productive capacity and adequate quality.Thus, the steady supply of raw materials, high yield and reduction of cost can be guaranteed.

Bereits Aristoteles (384 – 322 v. Chr.), einer der bekanntesten und einflussreichsten Philosophen der Geschichte, beschäftigte sich mit den “Tränen der Bäume”, wie er Propolis nannte. Er empfahl dieses bei Quetschungen und eitrigen Wunden. Der römische Gelehrte Plinius der Ältere (23 – 79 n. Chr.) beschreibt Propolis in seinen berühmten “Schriften zur Naturgeschichte” als sehr wirksame Medizin “für die Augen, bei Wunden und für die inneren Organe.”
Auch der berühmteste Pharmakologe des Altertums, Pedanios Dioscurides, der im 1. Jahrhundert n. Chr. lebte, nutzte und empfahl Propolis. Er wird mit den Worten zitiert: “Propolis ist eine gelbe und wohlriechende und auch im trockenen Zustand weiche und leicht mastixähnlich zu streichende Substanz. Sie ist sehr warm und hat Zugkraft, sie zieht Dornen und Splitter heraus. In Dampfform hilft sie gegen alten Husten, aufgetragen nimmt sie Flechten weg. Man findet sie bei den Mündungen der Bienenstöcke.“
Doch nicht nur im alten Europa war Propolis beliebt. Die südamerikanischen Inka verwendeten das Bienenkittharz als Medizin gegen fiebrige Infektionen.

Für das Mittelalter gibt es nur wenig Belege für den Gebrauch von Propolis. Eine Ausnahme stellt Osteuropa dar. So findet sich Propolis seit dem 12. Jahrhundert in den medizinischen Schriften Georgiens als Bestandteil verschiedener therapeutisch genutzter Zubereitungen wieder. Im 15. Jahrhundert wurde es als Mittel gegen Entzündungen im Mundraum empfohlen. Zudem blieb das Wissen um Propolis in der traditionellen Volksheilkunde insbesondere Russlands erhalten. Viele spätere Autoren sprechen daher vom “Russischen Penicillin”.

Eine wichtige Rolle spielte Propolis sowohl in den napoleonischen Kriegen als auch in den Burenkriegen im Bereich der Wunddesinfektion. Die Militärärzte nutzten die Substanz auch im Ersten Weltkrieg, in Russland ist ihr Einsatz auch noch im Zweiten Weltkrieg nachgewiesen.

Propolis wurde in den kriegerischen Auseinandersetzungen auch als Vorläufer der Antibiotika genutzt, um bakterielle Infektionen in den Wunden zu vermeiden. Allerdings wurde die natürliche Substanz aus den Bienenstöcken dann später von genau den Antibiotika verdrängt. Im Westen gab es einen Siegeszug der synthetisch hergestellten Arzneimittel.
