[What is St. John's wort]

St. John’s wort (Hypericum perforatum) has a history of use as a medicine dating back to ancient Greece, where it was used for a range of illnesses, including various nervous disorders. St. John’s wort also has antibacterial, antioxidant, and antiviral properties. Because of its anti-inflammatory properties, it has been applied to the skin to help heal wounds and burns. St. John’s wort is one of the most commonly purchased herbal products in the United States.

In recent years, St. John’s wort has been studied extensively as a treatment for depression. Most studies show that St. John’s wort may help treat mild-to-moderate depression, and has fewer side effects than most other prescription antidepressants.

Full Recipe

1/2c pumpkin seeds*
1-2tsp water if needed
——–
Chili Lime: Juice of 1/2 lime, 1-2tbsp chili powder, 1-2tsp cayenne pepper, 1/2tsp salt (optional)

Curry Ginger: 2tsp curry powder, 1tsp cumin, 1tsp ground ginger, 1/2tsp turmeric, 1/2tsp salt (optional)

Salt & Pepper: 1-2tsp salt, 2-3tsp black pepper

Sugar & Spice: 1-2tbsp sugar, 2tsp cinnamon, 1tsp nutmeg, 1/2tsp clove, 1/2tsp allspice

Mix seeds w/chosen seasonings, add water until just dissolved.
Marinate 30min.
Preheat oven to 400.
Spread seeds in single layer on parchment-lined baking sheet(s).
Bake 20-25min, let cool.
For Sugar & Spice: Seeds will be stuck together in melted sugar.
Cool completely, lift edges of parchment and fold gently inward.
Pour into bowl and break apart w/handle of wooden spoon.

*A medium-large pumpkin should give you ~2c of seeds. (I used two small ones.)

For the recipe:

1/2 pound beef, sliced
1 head of broccoli (1/2 lb)
3 green onions, sliced
Seasoning Trio mix;
2 tsp of minced ginger, 2 tsp garlic, and white parts of the green onions

Beef Marinade Mix:

2 tsp soy sauce
2 tsp Mirin (sweet cooking alcohol) or sugar
1/4 tsp garlic powder
1/8 tsp white pepper
1 Tbsp corn starch

For the end sauce:

2 tsp oyster sauce
2 tsp soy sauce
1 Tbsp Mirin or sugar

For a more saucy texture, add 1/4 cup of water or stock to thin out and then thicken with corn starch slurry (1 Tbsp corn starch, 1 tbsp water) at the end.
