Brief Introduction

Quercetin is a plant pigment (flavonoid). It is found in many plants and foods, such as red wine, onions, green tea, apples, berries, Ginkgo biloba, St. John’s wort, American elder, and others. Buckwheat tea has a large amount of quercetin. People use quercetin as a medicine.

Quercetin is used for treating conditions of the heart and blood vessels including “hardening of the arteries” (atherosclerosis), high cholesterol, heart disease, and circulation problems. It is also used for diabetes, cataracts, hay fever, peptic ulcer, schizophrenia, inflammation, asthma, gout, viral infections, chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), preventing cancer, and for treating chronic infections of the prostate. Quercetin is also used to increase endurance and improve athletic performance.

Main Function

1.Quercetin may expel phlegm and arrest coughing, it can also be used as anti-asthmatic.

2. Quercetin has anticancer activity, inhibits PI3-kinase activity and slightly inhibits PIP Kinase activity, reduces cancer cell growth via type II estrogen receptors.

3.Quercetin may inhibit histamine release from basophils and mast cells.

4. Quercetin may control the spread of certain viruses within the body.

5, Quercetin may help reduce tissue destruction.

6.Quercetin may also be beneficial in the treatment of dysentery, gout, and psoriasis

Recipe – Herbed Pork Roast and Cranberry Chutney
INGREDIENTS:
●2 tablespoons herbs de Provence
●1 tablespoon onion powder
●1 tablespoon light brown sugar
●2 tablespoons olive oil
●1 tablespoon lemon juice
●1 teaspoon crushed garlic
●2 1/2 pounds pork loin roast, rinsed and patted dry
●Salt and freshly ground black pepper
●1 (16-ounce) can whole cranberry sauce
●1 teaspoon lemon juice
●1/4 teaspoon crushed garlic
●1 teaspoon herbs de Provence

This is my absolute favorite hummus to date….It is lemony, garlicky, spicy and delish I serve this with the “Engine 2″ Crackers/Crispbread. Enjoy!

1 Tb. Tahini
1 cup white beans, about 1/2 of a 15 oz. can (Cannellini Beans), rinsed and strained
1-2 garlic cloves
2 Tb. lemon juice (if using less lemon juice, you can then add more water to desired consistency)
zest of 1/2 lemon
1/2 tsp. salt
ground black pepper
1/2 tsp. Extra Hot Chili Powder (I get this at the Indian supermarket) or you can use Cayenne pepper or Paprika instead
1/4 tsp. Turmeric powder (I get this at the Indian supermarket) this is only for color
2 Tb. water (or 1 Tb. water + 1 Tb. EVOO if still cooking with oil)
pinch of finely chopped fresh or frozen rosemary leaves (I have not tried it with dried rosemary yet)

Note: Instead of rosemary you can substitute for a pinch of ground cumin
