Brief Introduction

Quercetin is a plant pigment (flavonoid). It is found in many plants and foods, such as red wine, onions, green tea, apples, berries, Ginkgo biloba, St. John’s wort, American elder, and others. Buckwheat tea has a large amount of quercetin. People use quercetin as a medicine.

Quercetin is used for treating conditions of the heart and blood vessels including “hardening of the arteries” (atherosclerosis), high cholesterol, heart disease, and circulation problems. It is also used for diabetes, cataracts, hay fever, peptic ulcer, schizophrenia, inflammation, asthma, gout, viral infections, chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), preventing cancer, and for treating chronic infections of the prostate. Quercetin is also used to increase endurance and improve athletic performance.

Main Function

1.Quercetin may expel phlegm and arrest coughing, it can also be used as anti-asthmatic.

2. Quercetin has anticancer activity, inhibits PI3-kinase activity and slightly inhibits PIP Kinase activity, reduces cancer cell growth via type II estrogen receptors.

3.Quercetin may inhibit histamine release from basophils and mast cells.

4. Quercetin may control the spread of certain viruses within the body.

5, Quercetin may help reduce tissue destruction.

About Age-related Macular Degeneration
AMD damages the macula, and as the disease progresses it blurs the patient’s central vision, meaning that the sufferer can no longer see people’s faces. The most common form is dry AMD where the light-sensitive cells in the macula slowly break down. Untreated dry AMD can progress into wet AMD, which is caused by the abnormal growth of blood vessels under the macula, leading to rapid loss of central vision.

The first AREDS report showed that high-dose antioxidant vitamins and minerals taken orally reduced the risk of progression to advanced AMD by 25 per cent, and the risk of moderate vision loss by 19 per cent. The second report focuses on the benefits of supplementing with lutein and zeaxanthin and is expected provide clinical evidence of its efficacy.

There is no cure for AMD, which is a major cause of sight loss, but delaying the onset of AMD is now thought to be possible with a combination of diet, lifestyle and nutritional supplements. When the results for AREDS2 are announced in Q2 2013 it is anticipated that GPs and opticians will see a surge in requests for AMD screening.

Caramel Apples:
1 pkg. of individually wrapped caramels
2-3 tbs. milk
4 apples
popsicle sticks
microwave caramels until smooth
combine milk with the melted caramel
make sure wax is off the apples and they are completely dry
place popsicle sticks in apples
roll apples in the caramel and let sit for 10-15 minutes in the fridge

Oven Roasted Pumpkin Seeds:
add hot water witht the seeds, mix about 1-2 tbsp. of salt with it
soak for about 45 minutes to 1 hour, strain and pat dry
melt 2 tbsp. butter
mix butter, maple sugar, cinnamon and sugar with pumpkin seeds
the secod batch mix butter and bbq seasoning also add sugar, chilli powder,
salt, pepper, garlic powder and onion powder
place seeds on lined pan
spread seeds so they are not grouped together
preheat oven to 400 degrees farenheit and cook for 10-15 minutes, deending on the oven

let cool and enjoy!
