[What is Curcuma Longa?]

Turmeric is an herbaceous plant known scientifically as Curcuma longa. It belongs to the Zingiberaceae family, which includes ginger. Tumeric has rhizomes rather than true roots, which are the primary source of commercial value for this plant. Tumeric originates from southwest India, where it has been a stable of Siddha medicine for thousands of years. It is also a common spice in Indian cuisine and is often used as flavoring for Asian mustards.

Note: If you’re allergic to gluten, you can try whey protein in conjunction with xantham gum. Google has some good resources on replacing wheat gluten.

INGREDIENTS and price breakdown:

1 cup wheat gluten ≈$1.82
3/4 cup veggie broth ≈$0.37
2 tbs nutritional yeast ≈$1.12
1/4 cup maple syrup ≈$0.80
SEASONING ≈less than $3.00
1 tsp onion powder
1 tbs brown sugar
1 tbs soy sauce
1 1/2 tsp liquid smoke
1/4 tsp:
marjoram
sage
ground cloves
nutmeg
fennel seeds

Makes about 7–8 “sausage” patties

HOW TO MAKE:

1) Mix all the dry ingredients: wheat gluten, nutritional yeast, brown sugar, and all the spices.
2) Mix all the wet ingredients: veggie broth, maple syrup, liquid smoke and soy sauce.
2) Blend the two together until a moist dough is formed.
5) Make your patties!
6) Grill or cook stovetop and enjoy on an english muffin with VeganEgg and vegan cheese!
