Carbohydrates: Monosaccharides and Disaccharides | A-level Biology | OCR, AQA, Edexcel
https://goo.gl/31T06Y to unlock the full series of AS, A2 & A-level Biology videos created by A* students for the new OCR, AQA and Edexcel specification.
In this video we cover the concept of building biological polymers from monomers and then look at the general formula for carbohydrates. Then we’ll look at the structures of alpha and beta glucose as examples of hexoses, and ribose and deoxyribose as pentoses. We’ll also see how condensation can be used to build disaccharides through glycosidic bonds and hydrolysis breaks them down. We solidify everything learnt with an exam style question at the end.
