Cranberry Explosion, Gigi’s Juice January 2016
This video captures the beginning of Gigi’s (age 5) dream for 2016, “to be green inside and clean inside.” She hopes over 107,077 people will watch this (because that’s the world’s biggest number)! Dedicated to KIDpreneurs across the globe and their loving parents and caregivers who nurture their development. It’s raw, messy, and the beginning of a continuous improvement adventure. In 2015, we were inspired to get healthy after learning a few astonishing facts:
-According to the National Institute of Health, 68.8% of adults are considered overweight or obese.
-29.1 million people have diabetes. Currently at least 1 out of 3 people will develop Type 2 diabetes in their lifetime.
-95% of cancers are caused by diet and environment.
We chose a simple recipe to kick of the New Year! After the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, why not give yourself the gift of simplicity? You’ve earned it! Make 2016 your best year ever by indulging in the health benefits of mindful eating, attending to the nutritional value of the foods you use to nourish your body and expressing gratitude for your health and wellbeing!
Gigi named this month’s juice “Cranberry Explosion” because of the way the cranberries launch out of the juicer if you don’t quickly push them down. We had a few laughing moments discovering this recipe! Cranberries have been used for medicinal purposes throughout history. Cranberries have been used to prevent and treat urinary tract infections, kidney stones, and also to protect against heart disease and cancer. Cranberries contain proanthocyanidins, plant antioxidants, known for combating urinary tract infections. They also possess strong anti-inflammatory properties and may help to reduce the risk of periodontal disease, tooth decay.
3 oranges
1 lime
2 handfuls of cranberries
1 sprig of mint
Juice ingredients and add 1 T of agave or honey to sweeten.
As with many things, I wanted to wait until we’d achieved a level of presentation that we could be proud of. Instead, we decided to dive right in, placing vulnerability on center stage, and model the journey of messiness, innovation, and my favorite saying, “fail fast and fail forward.” So, this is our first attempt at using iMovie, merging clips, playing with images, and being “21st Century” digital citizens.
We are enthusiasts of the extraordinary and want to share our learning with others to increase health and happiness across the globe to transform the world.
