The Environmental Science Center of the PA College of Technology has some invasive plant species problems. Japanese Knotweed (Polygonum cuspidatum) has established itself in a sunny opening along our forest access road. The students shown here are in the Forest Protection class and are establishing a study on eliminating the species from the site. The first step was to remove all stems in four 25 ft by 25 ft plots. One plot will receive no further treatment. One plot has been treated with a herbicide prior to reemergence of the plant. One will be treated with the same herbicide upon reemergence. And the last plot will be continuously cut back as shown in the video.
