Fresh DIY Hemp Milk
Out of all the types of plant-based milk, hemp milk is one of the easiest to make at home and it’s one of the most nutritious too. Hemp hearts are quite soft so they don’t require any soaking and you don’t need a special high-speed blender to get it smooth. They are a wonderful source of Omega-3′s and are a complete source of protein.

I wanted to share this recipe ahead of Vegan MoFo because my theme this year is going to be Vegan Cultured Cheese and one of the recipe that I’m planning uses the leftovers from making hemp milk. It’s going to be a delicious, dreamy Vegan Month of Food.
In preparation for this tutorial, I reached out to Manitoba Harvest, a Canadian producer of hemp foods to see if they wanted to be a part of it. They were kind enough to send me a bag AND are providing one to giveaway! So if you want to win a bag of non-GMO Canadian hemp hearts, then make sure you’re subscribed to this channel and leave a comment telling me what you would do with the hemp hearts or making a suggestion on what you think I should do with them. I’ll assign a number to every qualifying comment and use a random number generator to pick the winner. Get your comments on or before September 5th! The winner will be announced soon after.
This giveaway is open to residents of Canada and the USA. But if you don’t live in those countries, don’t fret as I have a couple international givewaways planned for September.
EDIT OCT 21: This giveaway has closed. Congratulations to Marc Lemieux who won the free bag of hemp hearts from Manitoba Harvest.
EASY HEMP MILK RECIPE
Printable Recipe: https://www.marystestkitchen.com/diy-fresh-vegan-hemp-milk/
Ingredients:
1/2 cup shelled hemp hearts
5 cups water, divided
2 tablespoons molasses
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
pinch sea salt
Directions:
Combine the all the ingredients in a blender.
Blend on high for one to two minutes or until mixture is super smooth.
Strain the hemp milk through a nut milk bag, a jelly bag or a few layers of cheesecloth.
Taste and adjust for sweetness.
Serve immediately or store in the fridge for 3 to 5 days. This type of milk can separate over time; just give it a stir before serving.
Notes:
I love this hemp milk with my coffee, especially with cinnamon and other warming spices.
Also, don’t throw out the hemp heart solids after you strain the milk. You can use it in place of tahini in hummous recipes or to make hemp heart cheeses.

Disclaimer: Manitoba Harvest sent me a bag of hemp hearts for consideration after I reached out to them. They will also be sending the giveaway winner the same product. All opinions are my own.
