Goji Berry / Wolfberry Research (Comparative Analysis of Lycium Species)
San Juan College Biology Research Project
Abstract:
Medicinal value of Lycium (Wolfberry) species occurring in the Four Corners states, New Mexico, Utah, Colorado and Arizona, will be evaluated and compared to two Lycium species, Lycium chinensis and Lycium barbarum that originated from China. We will begin the process of assessing the medicinal value of Lycium species based on differences in flavanoid and polysaccharide content of leaves, bark and fruit using established analytical procedures that may include spectroscopy, Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectroscopy (GC/MS) and High Pressure Liquid Chromatography (HPLC).
