When we went to Peru, the Land of the Incas. Our guide pointed out crops of Maca and its use by The Incas.
Maca is a root crop growing on high elevations. Lot of studies on Maca are done in Peru. Physicians, nutritionists, herbalist and tribes in Peru have lot of experience with Maca. Maca has lot of phytonutrients, alkaloids, Amino acids and polyunsaturated fatty acids. It also has Vitamins, minerals, phytosterols, and glucosinates. It contains calcium, magnesium and silica. Maca also has BITC (benzylisothiocyanate) which in certain doses may have anti-cancer activity.
Maca is available in capsules or in powder form where it is used to make smoothies.

Maca has been used as an adaptogenic (allowing humans to adapt to changing inner and outer conditions of body) herb

BASIC MACA SMOOTHIE:
2 teaspoonful of organic Maca powder.
8oz of any juice or milk or nut milk
½ cup of ice
½ of peeled banana or ½ un-skinned apple or any fruit
Blend to consistency you like. Smoothie is ready
To make it more gourmet or special, you can add 1 teaspoon of Camus berry powder or Maqui berry powder to the smoothie.
Remember Maca provides lot of energy so drink it in the morning.
