Soybeans? More like joybeans after this trade (yikes). Calendar spreads in a single futures product are great, and trading them in two products can be double the excitement. In this episode of “Closing the Gap,” Pete Mulmat explains a pairs trade in /CL (crude oil) and /ZL (soybean oil). These products are pretty highly correlated in the long-term, and thus they can be used in tandem for a pairs trade, buying /CL in Sept. and selling /ZL in Dec. Pete takes us through the rationale of the trade, the deltas associated with each contract, and the capital required to put it on.
