Soxhlet Extraction #2 – Sage Leaves

Product Detail

Product Tags

My sage plants are doing well in the garden, so I decided to do a soxhlet extraction of some sage leaves. I used ethanol as my solvent, and as I did not have enough on hand, some more was distilled from vodka as the sage leaves were dried. Also there are a couple of 5 gallon sugar mash fermentations going to ensure a decent supply of ethanol for future extractions as I want to try citrus peels, lavender, oregano, more hot peppers, rose petals, and maybe even banana skins. This sage extraction went for 10 cycles, with each cycle taking about 4 1/2 minutes to complete.
