The Kitty Chef (The Oreo Cat): Matcha Shortbread
Matcha is finely ground powder of specially grown and processed green tea. The traditional Chinese and Japanese tea ceremony centers on the preparation, serving, and drinking of Matcha as hot tea. Today, Matcha is also used to flavor foods such as ice cream, Matcha lattes, and a variety of Japanese confectionery. Our Matcha Shortbread is the perfect tea time treat along with your favorite hot beverage.
Ingredients:
2 cups of all purpose flour
1.5 tsp of green Matcha tea (we used David’s Tea “Match Matsu”)
3/4 cup of brown sugar
1/2 tsp of vanilla
1/2 cup of room temperature salted butter
1/2 cup of melted unsalted butter
Method:
Preheat oven to 325 degrees (F). In a large bowl, mix together the flour, Matcha tea, brown sugar, room temperature butter and vanilla until evenly mixed. Add the melted butter and mix until the mixture is crumbly. Line an 8 x 8 pan with parchment paper. Press the Short Bread mixture into the pan and bake in the oven for 25 minutes. Let cool and serve with your favorite tea.
