Elderberry extract comes from the fruit of the Sambucus nigra or Black Elder, a species found in Europe, Western Asia, North Africa, and North America. I just wanted to step in and answer these questions: While dried out the grapes do not reach raisin stage and we found after testing that the heat from the process (effectively a large hair dryer) actually ENHANCES the antioxidant potency.Note that the powder intentionally consists of the grape SKIN and not the full grape..we felt that best results were derived from the skin and not the full grape. Having said that, a medicinal grape seed oil made from the very same Ontario grapes that the Bioflavia powder is made from is currently in the works.
