Introduction

Pomegranate, (Punica granatum L in Latin), belongs to the family Punicaceae which includes only one genus and two species. The tree is native from Iran to the Himalayas in northern India and has been cultivated since ancient times throughout the Mediterranean region of Asia, Africa and Europe.

Pomegranate offers abundant benefits for the cardiovascular system by preventing damage to arterial walls, promoting healthy blood pressure levels, improving blood flow to the heart, and preventing or reversing atherosclerosis.

Pomegranate may benefit people with diabetes and those at risk for the disease. It helps lower after-meal blood sugar levels and protects the cardiovascular system from diabetes-induced damage.

Pomegranate shows promise in killing prostate cancer cells, whether the cells are hormone-sensitive or not. Pomegranate also helped halt the progression of prostate cancer in men who had undergone surgery or radiation for the disease.

Pomegranate may fight the degeneration of joint tissue that leads to painful osteoarthritis, and may protect the brain against oxidative stress-induced changes that can lead to Alzheimer’s. Pomegranate extracts—alone or in combination with the herb gotu kola—help kill the bacteria that contribute to dental plaque, while helping to heal gum disease. Pomegranate also appears to protect the health of the skin and liver.

Pomegranate P.E. can be made into capsules, troche and granule as healthy food. Besides, it has good solubility in water plus the solution transparence and brilliance color, has been widely added into the beverage as the functional content.

Background: Inhibitors of hyaluronidase are potent agents that maintain hyaluronic acid homeostasis and may serve as anti-aging, anti-inflammatory, and anti-microbial agents. Sodium copper chlorophyllin complex is being used therapeutically as a component in anti-aging cosmeceuticals, and has been shown to have anti-hyaluronidase activity. In this study we evaluated various commercial lots of sodium copper chlorophyllin complex to identify the primary small molecule constituents, and to test various sodium copper chlorophyllin complexes and their small molecule analog compounds for hyaluronidase inhibitory activity in vitro. Ascorbate analogs were tested in combination with copper chlorophyllin complexes for potential additive or synergistic activity.
Materials and methods: For hyaluronidase activity assays, dilutions of test materials were evaluated for hydrolytic activity of hyaluronidase by precipitation of non-digested hyaluronate by measuring related turbidity at 595 nm. High-performance liquid chromatography and mass spectroscopy was used to analyze and identify the primary small molecule constituents in various old and new commercial lots of sodium copper chlorophyllin complex.
Results: The most active small molecule component of sodium copper chlorophyllin complex was disodium copper isochlorin e4, followed by oxidized disodium copper isochlorin e4. Sodium copper chlorophyllin complex and copper isochlorin e4 disodium salt had hyaluronidase inhibitory activity down to 10 μg/mL. The oxidized form of copper isochlorin e4 disodium salt had substantial hyaluronidase inhibitory activity at 100 μg/mL but not at 10 μg/mL. Ascorbate derivatives did not enhance the hyaluronidase inhibitory activity of sodium copper chlorophyllin. Copper isochlorin e4 analogs were always the dominant components of the small molecule content of the commercial lots tested; oxidized copper isochlorin e4 was found in increased concentrations in older compared to newer lots tested.
Conclusion: These results support the concept of using the hyaluronidase inhibitory activity of sodium copper chlorophyllin complex to increase the hyaluronic acid level of the dermal extracellular matrix for the improvement of the appearance of aging facial skin.

How to make aloe vera gel, Aloe Vera Benefits & Aloe Vera Gel uses!

this beauty tip is especially for those of you whom love & use aloe vera gel everyday…because making aloe vera gel at home will help you save lots of money while being fully aware of what your aloe vera gel contains.

You may already know that the aloe vera leaves secrete a clear, transparent, jelly-like substance that can be applied topically to heal wounds, burns, sunburns and soothe skin. This would be the best solution as it preserves all of the beneficial properties of the plant, but it’s not that handy and how many of us have at home an aloe vera plant?
If you choose to make it at home, the ideal solution would be the aloe vera gel obtained using:

freeze-dried aloe vera powder

or

pure aloe vera juice

The therapeutic profile of the freeze-dried aloe vera powder is lower than the gel obtained directly from the plant, YET it preserves important benefits for the skin: moisturizing, healing, soothing and protective properties.

The freeze-dried aloe vera powder can be obtained from either the aloe leaves & as well as from the inner gel. The transformation process removes the water from the leaf which is then transformed in powder. If it’s used the inner gel (which assures most of the beneficial properties will be transferred to our homemade gel), the gel in the leaf is usually removed by a hand filleting process. The gel filets are ground, filtered, and concentrated under vacuum and freeze-dried into a powder.
You only need other 3 ingredients apart from the freeze-dried aloe vera powder: vegetable glycerin (optional), xanthan gum (which helps reaching the gel consistency) and the preservative (which is a must!). And of course the pH indicator which should always be a must to make sure the homemade remedy you’ve created is safe for your skin.

If you can’t find the freeze-dried aloe vera powder and prefer using the aloe vera juice, just make sure first of all that your aloe vera juice does not derive from aloe vera forex as it may contain ingredients, like aloin and other anthraquinones that the skin does not enjoy & may irritate it. Anyway, as per any other cosmetic, always make an allergy test, applying a small quantity on a small part of skin.

Usually the aloe vera juice is sold in big quantities, 1 liter, and you’ll need to use only a small quantity for the homemade aloe gel therefore I advise you to freeze the remaining quantity so that you may use it for future homemade batches of aloe gel.
