Marigold flower belongs to compositae family and tagetes erecta. It is an annual herb and widely planted in Heilungkiang, Jilin, Inner Mongolia, Shanxi, Yunnan , etc.The marigold we used comes from Yunnan province. In one particular clinical trial, researchers investigated the benefits of silymarin on 170 patients, of which 91 were alcoholics diagnosed with cirrhosis of the liver . For 41 months, patients received 140 mg of silymarin, administered three times a day. The four year survival rate was 39 percent in the placebo group, compared with 58 percent in the milk thistle extract group. The lower death rate was particularly pronounced in the subgroup of patients with cirrhosis.

This study is particularly important for several reasons. Firstly, there were no adverse side effects reported during this study. This supports the notion that silymarin is beneficial for long-term use without causing harm. Also, the study results clearly demonstrate that silymarin helps to treat patients with liver damage as a result of alcohol abuse.
