Awesome.. 11 surprising uses for turmeric You SHOULD Know
1. Spice up your soap
If you make homemade soap, adding several teaspoons of turmeric to it will not only dial up its color, but will boost its skin-friendly benefits as well.
2. Brighten your pearly whites
Former Miss USA Susie Castillo swears by her recipe for homemade toothpaste, which includes turmeric powder. Although turmeric is known for its staining prowess, it is commonly (if not counter-intuitively) used to whiten teeth – presumably it’s not in contact with the enamel long enough to change the color. Here’s how to make your own version, and you can also sprinkle some on your commercial or other homemade toothpaste and brush as usual.
3. Save your scalp
Many swear by a combination of olive oil and turmeric to deter dandruff and to improve the overall condition of the scalp. Make a mix of turmeric and the oil of your choice (jojoba or coconut oil would be nice), massage into your scalp and leave on for 15 minutes, then shampoo and style as usual.
4. Customize foundation
Ashy makeup makes a bad match for luminous skin. Actor Thandie Newton tackles the problem by adding turmeric to tinted moisturizer to achieve a perfect glow that matches her skin tone. And in fact, women in India often use turmeric in face creams and body scrubs to boost the glow factor; sprinkle in a bit at a time until you have the proper tone.
5. Embellish temporary tattoos
Use turmeric to create golden Mehndi, the temporary tattoos made with henna, or to add a pretty second color to an extant henna tattoo.
6. Soothe a sick stomach
Turmeric has long used to quell bellies that aren’t behaving properly. A 2013 study showed that taking 500 mg of turmeric a few times a day can treat an upset stomach.
7. Diminish sprain strain
A traditional homeopathic sprain treatment involves making a paste using one part salt and two parts turmeric and enough water to make it spreadable. Apply to the affected joint and wrap in an old cloth that you don’t mind staining. Leave on for 20 minutes to an hour, once a day. (Don’t do this on body parts that can be seen; you don’t want a temporary yellow tinge!) Also of note: the University of Maryland Medical Center suggests taking turmeric to help reduce sprain swelling and makes the effect of bromelain (an anti-inflammatory derived from pineapple enzymes) stronger. Take 250 to 500 milligrams (mg) each of turmeric and bromelain, three times a day between meals.
8. Ease achy arthritis
For osteoarthritis, this 2010 study showed that a specific turmeric extract like Meriva or Indena can relieve joint pain.
9. Love your liver
According to early experimental research at the Medical University Graz in Austria, the curcumin in turmeric may delay liver damage that can eventually lead to cirrhosis.
10. Help tame swimmer’s ear
Natural remedy aficionados recommend using warmed garlic oil to help push the water out of ears affected by swimming; adding turmeric to the mix is said to help as well.
11. Inhibit skin cancer
Turmeric seems to hold much promise for skin treatments, as well as possibly inhibiting certain forms of cancer. Among other studies, researchers at the University of Texas note that curcumin inhibits the growth of melanoma and may also impede the spread of breast cancer to the lungs.

Morning Drink Recipe: Weight Loss and Adrenal Fatigue: Thomas DeLauer
Coconut Cranberry Smoothie
Ingredients
- Coconut Water/Milk
- Cranberries
- Pink Himalayan Sea Salt
- Cream of tartar
- Maca Root (powder)
Coconut Water or Coconut Milk
One side effect of adrenal fatigue is high blood pressure
A 2005 study found that when subjects were given coconut water for two weeks, their systolic blood pressure was 71% lower and their diastolic blood pressure was 29% lower than those who drank plain water.
The high potassium content of coconut water has led researchers to investigate the potential benefits for reducing cardiovascular disease risk.
Cranberries
It is the high levels of the specific substance proanthocyanidins (PACs) that are found in cranberries that helps the body’s immune function to ward off illness and disease.
Proanthocyanidins refers to a larger class of polyphenols – these powerful polyphenols are able to nurture the lining of the gut, where a large majority of the immune system is actually located.
Because cranberries can ward off harmful bacteria from accumulating and growing in the gut lining, healthy immune-boosting bacteria are able to thrive and create a powerful defense against sickness.
The polyphenols may help prevent the build-up of plaque on vessel walls, and the antioxidant components of cranberries are also linked to a reduction in blood pressure.
Pink Himalayan Sea Salt
It supplies an astonishing 84 unique trace minerals. There are 21 trace minerals that are widely agreed upon to be necessary for the body’s metabolic processes
Himalayan salt is mined from 200 million year-old seabeds; it is completely free of the heavy metals and other toxins that show up in sea salts harvested from today’s oceans.
When the adrenal glands are fatigued, they fail to produce adequate amounts of several hormones, including aldosterone.
Lack of aldosterone can disrupt the sodium balance at a cellular level. This can actually increase your needs for natural sodium and helps explain the salt cravings many people with adrenal fatigue experience (could explain why certain people favor salty foods more than others). (3)
Cream of Tartar
Cream of tartar, also called potassium hydrogen tartrate, is an acidic natural by-product of winemaking.
Adrenal fatigue can cause hypertension, or high blood pressure, and can lead to heart attack and strokes.
If you do suffer from low potassium, however, cream of tartar is a simple fix, packed with 16,500 mg of potassium in a mere 100 grams of cream of tartar (4)
Secret Ingredient: Maca Root (powder)
Clinical trials have shown that maca has positive effects on energy, stamina, and mood. Maintaining positive energy levels is related to having lower levels of anxiety and depression, both of which maca has been shown to positively help achieve.
Maca root is an adaptogen herb, which means that it helps only where it is needed. For instance, if your body is overproducing a hormone, it regulates it back to normal and if your body under-produces a hormone, it helps raise the level until it is balanced.
The adrenal glands are part of the endocrine system and are managed by the hypothalamus and the pituitary glands. When someone is suffering from adrenal fatigue, their adrenal glands are unbalanced causing excessive tiredness and horrible stress.
Maca root, when used consistently, has the power to nourish and stimulate the hypothalamus and the pituitary glands which in turn brings balance to the adrenal glands
