Turmeric is quite an interesting spice. I used to grow turmeric years ago when I lived in Australia. It belongs to the ginger. It’s got a very nice, sweet smelling white flower, almost a surreal sort of strong perfume about it. It’s got a nice funny knobby root when you break it open. It’s a deep golden yellow inside. Turmeric is a spice that’s been used for about 5,000 or 6,000 years now. Asian people have been using turmeric, ginger, garlic, lemongrass and these natural products in their food for so long. It’s incredible. The worst is just starting to click onto it. I really enjoyed fresh turmeric and I used to cook it like ginger, just peel it a little bit and finely grate it and mix it in with egg dishes, meat dishes, and curry dishes.
There is a lot of research that has been conducted on the benefits of turmeric. Especially, curcumin, which is one of the active compounds in this product. When you look at it, it’s a very brightly colored natural occurring food. Foods that have very powerful natural colors tend to have a very powerful antioxidant property about them, antiaging property about them. We find the same thing in red chilies and blueberries and foods like that, avocado. Brightly colored foods tend to have powerful benefits for the health.
Curcumin tends to work best in a fat-soluble environment. If you’re going to use the turmeric powder, which is not as strong as a high curcumin based raw material and dietary supplement, you’re best to mix it with coconut milk. Coconut milk, fat or butter, olive oil. You can simply make up a drink yourself for quite a healthy antifungal drink, just half a can of coconut milk. You can experiment with milk or crème to see which tastes better for you. Get a good brand. I find the ones from the Pacific are usually good, the Samoan coconut products are the best you can get from the island called Samoa. Half a can, half a teaspoon of turmeric powder, half a teaspoon of ginger powder, you can put a few drops of vanilla essence, cinnamon also is very nice with it. Cinnamon, turmeric and ginger combine very well together. You can put a bit of stevia powder in there, but I like vanilla essence. Put about 5 or 10 drops of vanilla essence. Blend that all up. That’s a beautiful drink. Good antifungal drink.
Turmeric powder is used by some women as a face mask. It has a very good antioxidant, rejuvenating properties to the skin. Turmeric powder can also be used and sprinkled on cuts or burns or stings. It’s incredible how fast a wound will heal when turmeric powder is sprinkled on it.
In 2008, a British antimicrobial journal published to a study. A Brazilian team headed up research on turmeric. What they did in a laboratory they found that it was very effective against 23 different fungal strains that they tried it against. In fact, even in very low concentration, it had very good antifungal properties. Other research from Russia and from America has shown that turmeric and particularly curcumin has antimicrobial properties against a wide range of parasite.
What I like about this product as well with turmeric powder is I often recommend it for people with arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis or osteoarthritis or any kind of autoimmune inflammation. It works very well. I usually get people to alternate one teaspoon of ginger powder and then the following day, one teaspoon of turmeric powder because they both have slightly different anti-inflammatory properties.
Ginger tends to have also a more beneficial effect on the gut, reducing gas and bloating and downplaying the effects of powerful steroidal or nonsteroidal drugs that patients tend to use with these inflammatory conditions. If you’ve got arthritis and you’re watching this or know someone with arthritis or rheumatoid arthritis, a teaspoon of ginger powder on Monday, teaspoon of turmeric powder on Tuesday, teaspoon of ginger powder on Wednesday, so just alternate them. Or you can do half a teaspoon of each. Half teaspoon of ginger in the morning, half a teaspoon of turmeric in the afternoon. Remember, turmeric works better in a fat soluble environment. With ginger, it doesn’t matter so much.
Both of these powders will keep for many, many years if kept in cool and dark containers sealed away from the light. Ginger is one of the only powders I know that can keep for many, many years without losing potency. And I’m quite sure turmeric is quite similar to that.
Last tip, they also blend well with honey for wounds. Don’t take it internally, but if you’ve got burns, ulcers, cuts or stings, a bit of turmeric powder mixed especially with Manuka honey, the New Zealand Manuka honey, try that on a wound. You will be blown away by how fast it heals.
The company's products can meet our diverse needs, and the price is cheap, the most important is that the quality is also very nice.
