[What is Huperzine A]

Huperzia is a type of moss that grows in China. It is related to club mosses (the Lycopodiaceae family) and is known to some botanists as Lycopodium serratum . The whole prepared moss was used traditionally. Modern herbal preparations use only the isolated alkaloid known as huperzine A. Huperzine A is an alkaloid found in huperzia that has been reported to prevent the breakdown of acetylcholine, an important substance needed by the nervous system to transmit information from cell to cell. Animal research has suggested that huperzine A’s ability to preserve acetylcholine may be greater than that of some prescription drugs. Loss of acetylcholine function is a primary feature of several disorders of brain function, including Alzheimer’s disease . Huperzine A may also have a protective effect on brain tissue, further increasing its theoretical potential for helping reduce symptoms of some brain disorders.

Huperzine A122211

[Function] Used in alternative medicine, huperzine A has been found to act as a cholinesterase inhibitor, a type of medicine used to prevent the breakdown of acetylcholine (a chemical essential to learning and memory).

Not only used as a treatment for Alzheimer’s disease, huperzine A is also said to enhance learning and memory and to protect against age-related cognitive decline.

In addition, huperzine A is sometimes used to boost energy, increase alertness, and aid in the treatment of myasthenia gravis (an autoimmune disorder that affects the muscles).

  • Thumbs up this video and tell me your favorite juice! Expand for full description of all anticancer ingredients!

    Turmeric Enhanced Juice:

-2 big apples-3 small apples (you can add more to sweeten/mellow out the juice)
-1 half of a squeezed lemon (or a little less if you don’t want it too tangy)
    -1 half of a carrot
    -a few pieces of parsley/celery
-a piece of turmeric or 1 to 2 tsp of powder added into the juice after you are finished juicing all the above ingredients (can be strong/spicy, so use less if you are sensitive/build up to it)

Turmeric is known to be the most powerful healing herb. It is chemopreventive & prevents metastasis, which is the process of cancer moving to another part of your body other than the main tumor.

Parsley has a bunch of nutrients that may protect against cancer. It is rich in antioxidants like beta-carotene, quercetin, and vitamin C . It also contains flavonoids such as apigenin, luteolin and chrysoeroil.

“Apigenin research studies have associated it with a decreased risk of pancreatic cancer, leukemia, cervical and ovarian cancer. Apigenin has also been shown to interfere with cancer cell proliferation, exhibiting strong anti-tumor properties.”

The flavonoid luteolin found in parsley is chemopreventive. It specifically has a strong effect against hormonal cancers such as prostate, thyroid and breast cancer.

Parsley has high levels of polyacetylenes, which are believed to inhibit the proliferation of cancer cells in the body. (cancer killing).

Celery helps boost cancer treatment effectiveness.
It also contains at least 8 bunches of anti-cancer compounds that have been shown to stop the growth of tumor cells, block the action of prostaglandins which encourage the growth of tumor cells and help prevent free radicals from damaging cells.

In particular, celery has been known to help prevent the formation and development of the colon and stomach cancers.

The skins of APPLES contain anti cancer polyphenols. Polyphenols are powerful antioxidants, which act to eliminate damaging free radicals in the body.
Oxidation also plays a big role in causing cells to become cancerous. Some of the polyphenols in apples appear to stop the growth and spread of cancer cells. A 2007 study by Cornell University on the peels of Red Delicious apples showed reductive effects to lung, colon, breast, and liver cancers.

Carrot’s antioxidants pose a great shield against cancer and they are highly recommended for breast cancer. Carrots have been shown to have antioxidant, antifungal, antibacterial, and anti-inflammatory effects, too!

Lemons may also harbor anti-cancer properties that could help ward off cancer.

Pumpkins are now in the shops but there can be used for so much more than a Halloween lantern which will just end up in the bin. October is the month of pumpkin recipes here on A Year of Vegan Eats so come back every week for new recipes to make the most out of your pumpkin.

    Smokey roast pumpkin seeds.

I was never a fan of eating them with the shell on but once you simmer them for 10 minutes they become a lot easier to eat and digest. They also rock as a crunch topping.

    Ingredients –
    Seeds from 1 pumpkin
    1 tbsp of oil
    Chilli flakes to taste
    ½ tsp of liquid smoke
    1 tbsp of garlic powder
    2 tsp of paprika
    Pinch of salt
    2 tbsp of nooch

    Method –
    1. Clean your pumpkin seeds to get as much pumpkin off them as possible.
    2. Fill a pan with boiling water and generously salt. Add in your washed seeds and simmer for 10 minutes. While this happens pre heat your oven to 200C.
    3. Drain your seeds then in the dry pan add your remaining ingredients to make your marinade. Add in the seeds and mix well so they are evenly coated.
    4. Pour the seeds onto a baking sheet and spread flat. Bake for 20 minutes until they are dry and toasted. Leave to cool completely and store in an airtight container.
