French men who brag of their reputation as great lovers may be in for some competition this week.

The anti-impotency drug Viagra went on sale in France for the first time.

And despite claims of sexual prowess, the French are expected to buy the pill in their millions.

VOICE-OVER:

The Makers of Viagra are churning out their sex-enhancing pills by the million.

In France, where the drug’s just become available, newspaper reports on the miracle cure for impotence made pretty interesting reading for Parisians buying their early morning papers.

There was no hammering on pharmacists’ doors but some reports have said occasional impotence affects up to 9 (m) million French men.

No wonder the drug’s heralded as man’s latest best friend.

Valerie Vernier, who’s a Paris pharmacist , has been inundated with enquiries about the little blue pill.

“Considering the huge number of phone calls we have received these past two months, I think we are going to have a big demand. It’s the G-P’s role to ask his patient the right questions to see if he really needs it and to explain contra-indications and risks.
